Childcare Leave Overview
Dow Jones offers Unpaid Childcare Leave, which allows eligible employees to take up to 9 months of unpaid leave to care, as the Primary Caregiver, for a new born child or a child that has been placed with the employee for adoption or foster care. The leave or any extension requires the employee’s manager’s approval.
Eligibility & Duration of Leave
Employees are eligible for Child Care Leave if they:
(i) Are a full-time or benefits eligible employee under statutory requirements, and
(ii) Are the Primary Caregiver, as defined below, to the child for the duration of their leave, and
(iii) Have used up all their eligible and accrued Annual Leave, and
(iv) Comply with all other applicable provisions of this Child Care Leave Policy.
Eligible employees may take up to 9 months of unpaid Child Care Leave, which runs concurrently with any period of paid Parental Leave, medical and/or annual leave etc., unless local legislations stipulated otherwise. Child Care Leave begins on the date of birth or placement of the child. Subject to local legislations, employees may be permitted a six (6) month leave of absence for the purpose of child care, without their manager’s approval. The employee’s same job can only be guaranteed for up to six (6) months, unless local legislations stipulated otherwise.
With their manager’s approval, employees can choose an extended leave of absence up to a maximum of nine (9) consecutive months from the date of birth or placement without loss of seniority or benefits. However, the employee’s same job will not be guaranteed, unless local legislations stipulated otherwise.
Local statutory requirements may apply if different to the requirements in this policy.
